June 2016 Marketing of Legend of Tarzan

This trailer is the best so far.  I saw Warcraft today in an IMAX theater.  The LOT IMAX trailer looks really good.  It definitely got my blood pumping.

Warcraft is exactly what it says it is.  I fantasy movie based on a computer game with amazing special effects.  RottenTomatoes score of 26% and audience score of 87% I'm way closer to the 87%.  I guess some of these critics just don't get fantasy.  I can see why this movie wouldn't be some people's cup of tea but I hope Mr. Yates can win over this critics with this amazing screen play.

IMAX tweet re: Alexander Skarsgård, Tarzan, and his other roles.

Saw another LOT TV spot at 11pm last night on AMC during "The American West" premiere episode. The TV spot looked like it had some of the new trailer scenes in it.

Another interview with Alexander Skarsgård.  He shares a little bit more about the Jane/Tarzan relationship and Jane's importance -- she "anchors" him.  Their relationship, the romance truly seems to be the driving undercurrent of the movie, as David Yates has alluded to.

Forget the Tarzan you know

Interview with Christoph Waltz

EXCLUSIVE: Christoph Waltz Interview – The Legend of Tarzan

Says has NO scenes with Samuel L Jackson, very few (but important) scene with Skaesgard and most of his scenes are with Robbie.

I have a question -- what are you guys "feeling" about the rollout of the promotion.  I find myself looking each day for something that catches my imagination -- or something different that we haven't heard a hundred times before. About the only thing that really struck me as "cool" was the alignment with Stop Ivory, and as noble as that is, I don't think it's going to put a ton of people in seats in cinemas. It's a good supporting element, but that's it.    But mainly we seem to be limited to a) trailers and TV spots which, although the IMAX trailer contains a little bit more, are basically remixes of stuff that's been out there at least since March, b) more abs in different poses, c) a few comments here and there from the likes of Waltz (one interview) and Jackson (one interview) . . . .

I'm really struck by how little I have to actually write about in the main blog.  It's like they are doing this on auto-pilot, and don't have any concept about how to make it seem really special.

The Disney John Carter rollout was horrible for the degree to which it was tone-deaf and just didn't hit the right chords.  And in that case, there were more articles (negative ones, mostly) being generated organically because of the "shock and dismay" everyone was feeling about the budget of $250m and how bad it was tracking, etc.  So I know that not 'all publicity is good publicity"  -- it can be bad.

But still . . . .

If you're a Harry Potter fan, how does this compare to the last month before one of Yates' HP movies?

I'm just feeling very .... like, where's the beef? as far as the promotion is concerned.

The promotion so far  does have a very  ho hum feel. I was interested in finding out more about the Tarzan Experirnce but there is literally no specific information about it. It seemed pretty cool. Something fifferent but not being advertised enough on line or anywhere else I can find . There is very little ,if any, coverage in US magazines . Skarsgard is on tour now but he's starting with countries that won't release the film until later in July. I'm not sure what that's about but it seems like he should be starting with the ones with a July 1 release date and then broadening out from there. I get the feeling they are indeed on auto pilot with this film and are going to throw everything they have regarding " this is special" behind Suicide Squad ,particularly in lieu of how disappointing B vs S was.

I'm not sure how much the imdb popularity rating have to do with putting butts in seats but LOT is at 7 ( up 24 points scene last week) and Independence Day Resurgence is at 17 ( up 12 points ) since last week. Skarsgard has a population tating of 18( up 35 points from last week)  and Robbie is at 5 , whereas none of the stars of IDR are below 500. It seems the PR campaign  in although having nothing  really exciting or extra special, so far, is raising awareness and interest.
