I have a question -- what are you guys "feeling" about the rollout of the promotion. I find myself looking each day for something that catches my imagination -- or something different that we haven't heard a hundred times before. About the only thing that really struck me as "cool" was the alignment with Stop Ivory, and as noble as that is, I don't think it's going to put a ton of people in seats in cinemas. It's a good supporting element, but that's it. But mainly we seem to be limited to a) trailers and TV spots which, although the IMAX trailer contains a little bit more, are basically remixes of stuff that's been out there at least since March, b) more abs in different poses, c) a few comments here and there from the likes of Waltz (one interview) and Jackson (one interview) . . . .
I'm really struck by how little I have to actually write about in the main blog. It's like they are doing this on auto-pilot, and don't have any concept about how to make it seem really special.
The Disney John Carter rollout was horrible for the degree to which it was tone-deaf and just didn't hit the right chords. And in that case, there were more articles (negative ones, mostly) being generated organically because of the "shock and dismay" everyone was feeling about the budget of $250m and how bad it was tracking, etc. So I know that not 'all publicity is good publicity" -- it can be bad.
But still . . . .
If you're a Harry Potter fan, how does this compare to the last month before one of Yates' HP movies?
I'm just feeling very .... like, where's the beef? as far as the promotion is concerned.
