June 2016 Marketing of Legend of Tarzan

Yes, ho hum is a good description. Seems like they're covering there bases but just barley. My red flag is that I've yet to see any banners, cardboard cutouts or cool statues like TMNT. Two weeks ago my local theater had nothing and this week I went to the largest theater in the area with an IMAX theater and still nothing in the main lobby but a small poster. I mentioned the lack of promotion for Tarzan and was told that something would be on display soon. They said I wasn't the first to be asking about Tarzan.

I do think the IMDB rating for LOT being better than ID2, as well as Skarsgard/Robbie being high, is intriguing. My interpretation is this -- people are having that "Oh, there's a Tarzan movie? Huh?" and then they do an IMDB search. The IMDB ratings are just that -- they capture search interest. So while it may show LOT ahead of ID2, I don't think anyone would suggest it's tracking better than ID2. People already know about ID2...yada yada. But still, it's not a bad thing to see the numbers come up like that. . . . .

They do seem to be on autopilot. I don't know if it's based on their internal tracking numbers or what. We know they're capable of excellent marketing, but other than Suicide Squad their bigger budget summer movies don't seem to be getting much attention.
They do seem to be pushing it more overseas, so perhaps the tracking is better overseas. But, you're marketing, your job is to market. So they've focused on tv ads and trailers, that just started in the last month. I've seen very little US magazine coverage, and I'm hoping that we get more tv promotion than just a pretaped appearance on Live With Kelly.
It's as if, after the initial launch in December WB is letting the interns run this campaign.

Wow. Just saw a brand new 30 second trailer and I think it's excellent. Starts with the famous leap off the cliff (the score was ominous with a Darth Vader sound going on). We then get to see a King mangani elbow aside another to face off with Tarzan. Tarzan (standing next to GWW) throws down his shirt and there goes the leap at each other with way cool extra stuff. Black screen for a beat. The best is Jane. She's still sitting at the table with Captain Rom saying "Get ready...because that is nothing compared to what he will do to you". Then the usual buffalo stampede. Then we get to see Jane head butt some dude and dive off the boat to make her escape. Here's something new we've been waiting for.
I forgot to mention that I saw it at the end of the NBA Finals game.

Yes, I saw it too. It came at the last possible minute of the NBA Finals Game 5 -- just before Cleveland put it out or reach and viewers started leaving it. Very good trailer -- absolutely badass, and I think audiences will respond. Jane's headbutt and dive were great, as was her attitude when delivering: "That is nothing . . . compared to what he will do to you..." Overall, serious step forward.
Let me know if anyone finds it online. I just looked -- couldn't find it. It will turn up.

Still no sign of this new TV Spot. I remember WB Youtube used to release them all a few weeks before the film comes out.
As for HP, at this point WB usually had released two trailers, some early featurettes, a number of stills, and there had been interviews every few months during the build-up. Character posters, spots, cast interviews, clips, and BTS features were usually starting to come out a few weeks before the film.

For some odd reason, they seem to upload these TV spots on Facebook/Twitter/etc. but not on YouTube. It's strange.

The Facebook page has uploaded a new video, unfortunately not in the right aspect ratio for the film: https://www.facebook.com/LegendofTarzan/videos/1041506572600392/

Looks like Alex is in Australia promoting LOT and kissing kangaroos. LOT opens on July 7th there.
