Guys ... just checking in. Good news is that
Will S and I saw the movie last night, along with Scott Tracy Griffin and Cathy Wilbanks and Janet Mann from ERB Inc. I would love to write about it but they made us sign in blood to not blog or talk about it until 6am on Jun 29. I think we have to honor that. Sure was fun to see it, and I wish I could say more. I will be seeing it again on Monday night at the premiere, and Tuesday night at the ERB ECOF screening . . . .so by the time the embargo is off I'll have had three viewings and will be thoroughly immersed.......

Re IDR and Box Office prospects -- definitely looks like IDR's performance will open up some space for LOT. I've always felt like IDR would be doing 40-60m its second weekend and now it looks more like maybe 25m. On the other hand Dory, which I had thought would be down to 25m by its third weekend, may well be at 40m or more .... so not that much space has opened up. But the LOT audience is closer to the IDR audience, so the weak showing of IDR presumably does help LOT. It's still possible it could do 40 although predictions are for 30. IF it coudl get to 40 in the US and 100 overall in the US, with a big foreign outcome which is possible -- it could make it to 400m worldwide and be a "win" . . . .

I'm glad you had fun seeing it, Michael - I'll take that for what it's worth. 🙂 After all of the anticipation and waiting so long, it must have been great to finally have the curtains peel back and reveal Tarzan in all his cinematic glory.
I'm not surprised the embargo was still in play for that showing, too, although it was worth the hope. We'll all have to wait patiently until Wed morning to hear your thoughts, as well as Will's, and with your 3 viewings, I expect you'll have a pretty clear perspective on it -- immersed, indeed.

I really hope IDR's poor performance does help LoT. The BFG and Finding Dory seems to pull from the same demographics and IDR with LoT, as you noted. FD is doing really well and sounds like it will erode The BFG's performance and could possibly do the same to the box office, in general, since its audience seems to be pretty substantial and steady.
Regardless, I hope the reviews and word of mouth sets up LoT as the only real alternative for those looking for more than the "family fun" experience. Fingers crossed! 🙂

I'm going crazy. I'm terrible at keeping secrets and an awful liar. If I say to much delete me Michael. It was definitely worth the almost three hour drive in Friday night LA traffic and maddening search for parking. I also got to sit next to Michael. Very cool. Still looking forward to seeing it again Thursday on an IMAX screen. This was an old theater so there were some line of sight issues. I don't think I'll get in trouble saying it is epic. I better stop there.

Hang in there, Will! It sounds like you all had a great time and I'll live vicariously and be happy, too. 🙂 Looking forward to Wed to get your take on what I'm sure is an Epic movie. 😀

Thanks Will and Michael. I see your not crying in your beer and think LOT was well worth your time. That's all I need to know right now. They made a good movie and I hope most critics and reviewers see it that way too. I trust the two of you more than the critics so ,even though I will read their reviews ,I'm really looking forward to yours on Wednesday. I'm so glad you two got to meet and sit together and that you enjoyed yourselves so much.
They're having an advanced screening in Houston, to which I would have gone but I left town to visit my family and there are no advance screenings in Columbus,Ohio. Very disappointed. ? So far,it's not scheduled to play on any IMAX screens here either.Hopefully IDR's poor showing will release an IMAX screen for LOT.
I ,too ,am hopeful that IDR's failure to attract huge crowds will open up a larger space for LOT.
If I have to ,I'll see it again in IMAX when I get back to Houston.
