June 2016 Marketing of Legend of Tarzan

New article by DIY Mag (posted 2 days ago) about that special preview screening a few weeks back: http://diymag.com/2016/06/04/a-look-behind-the-scenes-of-the-legend-of-tarzan It includes a description of scenes we haven't heard of before. This in particular sounds great:

The next sequence we’re shown is an ambush of Rom’s party by Samuel L. Jackson’s George Washington Williams and a party of tribesmen in an attempt to prevent the slave trader from making away with a cargo of humans set for a life of subservient misery and Tarzan, who is held prisoner. In another scene we get a taste of the bromance between Jackson and Skarsgård as they leap from a cliff’s edge into the tree’s below, Jackson displaying his famous comic timing as he reluctantly, and awkwardly, follows suit. There’s a wonderfully choreographed action sequence as our heroes swing through the vegetation of the jungle only a moving train.

This has added footage I haven't seen yet.  It's longer, too, at 3:03 mins.

Lindie, unfortunately not. This is straight up the second trailer with added footage of the flashback scene when Tarzan is a child. That's the only new footage. There is no new footage from the story proper.

This is a good thing and a bad thing. Bad thing for us fans who want to see more of what they've got in store. But good thing from a marketing point of view that the film is still holding back a lot of great material than can potentially surprise audiences in the cinemas.

It's not a rule, but films which don't give away the entire movie in the trailer tend to well with audience word of mouth because they feel surprised.

I suspect that's the mysterious 0:53 trailer that was rated alongside the official trailer 2.

I think the Imax trailer has new footage.  Some of the sequences seem a bit longer and there was no Tarzan and the elephant (scene used for Stop Ivory campaign) in the previous 2 trailers. I think some of the running through the jungle (fully clothed) seems new in length (e.g., not just a flash).

Just my observations. 🙂

Also, looks like Alexander Skarsgård will be on "Kelly and ?????, Live" doing some Tarzan promotion.  (Thanks to SophTop for the find)

LOT TV trailer is showing tonight on SyFy during all of its shows.

A collection of links that covered the IMAX trailer (I'm only choosing links that have an active comments section). Comments seem to be mostly positive.

Also, an interesting bit from Variety: http://variety.com/2016/film/news/sue-kroll-contract-1201789854/

Warner Bros. has signed worldwide marketing and distribution president Sue Kroll to a new multi-year contract, Variety has learned.

The move is described by insiders as a sign of confidence in Kroll’s abilities by Warner Bros. chairman Kevin Tsujihara. Kroll’s future has been a subject of speculation in recent months, as Warner Bros. suffered a series of box office misfires such as “Pan,” “Jupiter Ascending” and “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” Last spring’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” grossed $872.2 million globally, but some analysts were disappointed it failed to hit $1 billion.

Going forward, the studio has high hopes for “Suicide Squad,” a comic-book adaptation with Will Smith, and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” a Harry Potter spinoff. However, “The Legend of Tarzan,” a new version of the Ape-Man saga, is facing fierce commercial headwinds. It opens in July.

I'll add a few more links re: the IMAX trailer.  Collider has some positive comments. Cinemablend's comments fall in line with the typical "who asked for Tarzan", but the article was interesting.  Inquisitr gave a postive swing to the trailer.

‘The Legend Of Tarzan’: Alexander Skarsgård Plays Nice With The Apes [Video]

They've posted another slightly different trailer to Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/BGXCqejgzo9/?taken-by=legendoftarzan

There's slightly expanded narration from Jane. A shot of Tarzan with the elephants. Kerchak advancing is slightly longer.

Last night at approx 8:30 on the CW network, one of the LOT TV spots was shown (I think it was the "Evil Spirit" one) during an episode of Reign (a period-piece/historical drama series).
