Is this a stealth campaign? Or strategically slow start?

Does the Russian GQ and the other one appear to be something that was arranged by WB publiicity dept -- like the Vogue thing obvously was? Or is it more like something arranged by Skarsgard peeps? Sounds like the latter. . .
It would be WB, not Alex, because I don't think he'd do this if he didn't have something to promote. It's more like his earlier interviews, where he wasn't as well known and you've got to get autobiographical stuff in there so the audience has some idea of who the lead is.
This is a link to the GQ article, the writer also was at Leavesden Studios during filming, so this is definitely part of promo:

Let's add to this the Cinema Con WB presentation of the extended trailer and appearance of Alex and Margot. I also think Alex presenting the award for MTV Best picture with Sam Jsckson, where he put in a plug for LOT, counts as PR for this film. Alex garnered a lot of media attention with his pantless Tux and reference to his role as Tarzan. Then ,there is his appearance at the Met Gala. This counts as being in attendance at high profile see and be seen events. Alex does not attend any of these public events unless thy're work related. He has said this numerous times.

I've been watching a lot of playoff basketball on ESPN and TNT and see a lot of movie trailers during commercials. I saw a lot of Nice Guys commercials that started about 3 week before its release date. This weekend I'm seeing a lot of Warcraft commercials with its release date being June 10th and The Free State Jones with a release date of June 24th I believe. Haven't seen any ID2 or BFG trailers yet.

And now we have the six week fitness challenge thingy.
Everything matters -- but 70% of the budget usually goes for TV ads . . . so that's the big gorilla in the room. They are definitely holding their fire on that . . . .
It will be very interesting and possibly depressing to find out what the tracking numbers are when they come out four weeks before the film. That will give WB a real idea of where they stand. I can't imagine the nubers would b very good unless a lot happens in the next two weeks. On the other hand. . . .maybe they are figuring to kind of slide in unnoticed and then give it a good push the final 3 weeks -- a strategy that could keep it from drawing schadenfreude fire the way it would if they were really out there pushing it loudly already.
Hmmmmm.......still fretting.

I'd like to report my first BFG commercial siting during the Cleveland/Toronto Eastern Conference Finals during the second quarter. It was a 30 second spot.
