WB Releases Legend of Tarzan Trailer — Here it is!
WB is on a roll — first the Legend of Tarzan stills yesterday, then the poster this morning, now the trailer. It’s happening folks.
SYNOPSIS ETC
From Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures comes the action adventure “The Legend of Tarzan,” starring Alexander Skarsgård (HBO’s “True Blood”) as the legendary character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
The film also stars Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson (“Pulp Fiction,” the “Captain America” films), Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond,” “Gladiator”), Oscar nominee John Hurt (“The Elephant Man,” the “Harry Potter” films), with Oscar winner Jim Broadbent (“Iris”), and two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Django Unchained”).
It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
David Yates (the final four “Harry Potter” films, upcoming “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”) directed “The Legend of Tarzan” from a screenplay by Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer, story by Brewer and Cozad based on the Tarzan stories created by Burroughs. Legendary producer Jerry Weintraub (“Behind the Candelabra,” the “Ocean’s” trilogy) produced the film, together with David Barron (the “Harry Potter” films, “Cinderella”), Alan Riche (“Southpaw”) and Tony Ludwig (“Starsky & Hutch”). Susan Ekins, Nikolas Korda, Keith Goldberg, David Yates, Mike Richardson and Bruce Berman served as executive producers.
The behind-the-scenes creative team included director of photography Henry Braham (“The Golden Compass”), Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig (“Dangerous Liaisons,” “The English Patient,” the “Harry Potter” films), editor Mark Day (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 & 2”), and Oscar-nominated costume designer Ruth Myers (“Emma,” “Unknown”).
“The Legend of Tarzan” was shot at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, as well as on location around the UK.
A Jerry Weintraub production, “The Legend of Tarzan” is slated for release on July 1, 2016. The film will be distributed in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

Well, it looks really good! Love the scenery, the CGI looks good, and it looks like a great adventure. Nothing campy or cheesy. I’m so excited!
Love it! The atmosphere, the cinematography… the tree shots, the apes (not mangani really, more bolgani, but what the hell)… The period is absolutely correct! Yes, the tree house is wrong, but again, what the h… you can’t have everything. I like the echoing sound of the ape call. And are those Leopard Men? I’m stoked!!
Oh yeah, and I forgot to even mention Skarsgard, Robbie and Sam L. Jackson! Lookin’ very, very good!
Except for the Weissmuller/Disney tree house, I’m in. Compare this trailer to John Carter’s…what a difference.
Ain’t it the truth. The reaction on line is much, much better, too — not surprising.
Is that an infant on Kala’s back? Maybe it will be Akut, raised as Tarzan’s brother. So maybe he’s the Mangani featured on the poster. Tree house, vine swinging (Spider-Man style, but hey, Tarzan is the father of all superheroes!) are reminiscent of the older movies. Apparently in this version Tarzan will fight Kerchak at this time period? And Mbonga seems to be the chief of the leopard men, neat. The jungle feels dangerous, as it should be. Margot Robbie radiates through the screen, as expected! Pulp magazine, great. Two-guns Jackson, awesome! I already want a George Washington III team-up with Tarantino’s Django! Still no John Hurt in sight (still want him as ERB!). I’m a happy Customer right now! 🙂
Yes it is. I was going to make a comment about that. Kala didn’t have an infant on her back in the book …. she was carrying her dead infant, and left the body in the crib when she took Tarzan.
Was almost afraid to see this … after the JC debacle. Looks much better than what I thought.
EPIC! looks like they took the best of the new Planet of the Apes series meets a Victorian costume drama piece.

Surprisingly impressive! Extremely happy that it is a period piece. Tarzan’s adventures belong in an action/fantasy genre and in a certain time; placing them solely in the world Burroughs created should be sacrosanct.

Valid point. But that`s how it usually is with the villains, they know that the hero`s wife/ girlfriend can be used against them and that`s what they do. That`s why they`re villains, after all.

He could have worked as Superman, Batman, Tarzan,The Punisher or Deathstroke The Terminator. He could work as Shazam in The Shazam Movie ( but that`s going to be a difficult proposition for WB and DC in finding an actor talented enough to pull off playing an adolescent- a child, really, trapped in the body of a Super-Powered Adult and I frankly don`t know if Manganiello is a good enough actor to pull if off and especially if he were to act alongside someone as charismatic as The Rock but I do think they should consider him for the role)
or even Marvel`s version of Hercules( if they ever do anything with him, that is). Joe Manganiello was born to play a Super Hero character. I remain pretty confident that sooner or later he`ll play one. I think he even said himself once that it`s going to happen and in an interview for a magazine, one of his friends described him as Shazam! That in some ways, he`s a nerdy kid trapped in this hulking, body of an adult.

That`s why I said yesterday on the thread for Tarzan that it would make more sense if he start off this feral Man-Child, like Mowgli in The Jungle Book or even Aquaman in The 1990s Mini-Series, Time And Tide( which reimagined the origin of Aquaman as one where he is basically an underwater Tarzan/Mowgli and raised by Dolphins and is naked up until his Mid-Late Teens or Early Twenties). It`s not like animals wears clothes or need to wear clothes( people dressing their pets up is more an indulgence, I always thought, it`s more for the owners than it is for the pets) and I don`t think that a man raised by animals would start off wearing clothes. And as Tsui_Choi put it, the freaking synopsis does explain that Tarzan left The Jungle and then returned. So he`s been ”domesticated”, if you will. But in few cases is it more apt to say that you can take the man out of The Jungle but not The Jungle out of The Man.

Exactly. Most people who criticize this trailer have probably never read a Burroughs Tarzan book. They were awesome. Most movies made on the subject barely scratched the surface of the intensity and savagery of the novels. Hope this movie is close to it. Trailer actually looked great!

Soooo true. He was basically Wolverine, Conan, and Doc Savage rolled into one. Robert E. Howard actually admitted to being inspired by this character when he created Conan. I’ve read over half of the original 24 novels and this one has my interest. The Belgian is a Burroughs villain, btw.

Man with catalogue good looks white teeth and body of a super hero despite growing up in the jungle gets found by the hottest totty in the jungle who he mounts monkey style, goes back to England, gets educated, humps anything around him and then goes back to jungle with totty where he indulges in rear entry material all day in between playing soggy biscuit with the apes..
BTW, the swinging cg looks awful…

Speaking of white guys in The Jungle, tupac, I would love to see Marvel do something with their white guy in The Jungle with animal friends- Ka-Zar.
Granted, he`s a Rip-Off Tarzan but the way I see it, if Galaxy Quest can be better than some actual Star Trek Movies and Austin Powers can be better than some actual James Bond Movies, there is no reason that a Ka-Zar project done well by Marvel couldn`t be better than some of the stuff that has been done with Tarzan. As for Sam Jackson being in the movie, the man has said on record that he`ll do movies just for the cash and because he likes to see himself in them. I have to respect his honesty and as Jay-Z said, I can`t knock his hustle.

Greystoke was a fine movie. One of Lambert`s best( along with Highlander, of course). It had tinges of sadness and melancholy to it, though. How he just didn`t fit in with human civilization and society and in the end, couldn`t be with Jane( man, Andie McDowell was hot in those days) and had return to the only world he understood, The Jungle.

TheRealJRoberT viffer-007 • 5 days ago
Well, in fairness, you really can`t do some of the stunts that Tarzan does without stunt doubles and CGI. Also, the kind of way that animals factor into the story of Tarzan, it`s next to impossible to use real ones. I know that some iterations have but for the most part, it`s better when they use CGI or animatronics and puppetry( as The 1984 film obviously did). I keep saying that I hope Aquaman uses CGI and animatronics for the usage of Marine Wildlife(and they`ll pretty much have to) the way that the New Planet Of The Apes Movies and Noah used CGI for depicting the animals.
But I thought Sam Jackson`s hair looked faker than some of the animals in the trailer! Ha! Ha!
But that`s one of the bonuses of being bald, as Jackson himself said, for characters that have hair, the actors can just rock a wig.

I don`t think Skarsgard can really be entirely blamed for Battleship, ah, sinking the way that it did at the Box Office. True, he was part of the production so he can`t entirely be divorced from the assignment of blame. But at the same time, he`s an actor, he needs to work, just like the rest of us- or well, those of us who do work. I would think that the director, producers, screen writers and studio need to take some of the blame, too. And I don`t see this pattern of Skarsgard being in consecutive bombs the way that I do with Taylor Kitsch. I like Chris Hemsworth in the role, but Skarsgard would have been a Bad-Ass Thor and he actually does hail from a Nordic Country( not like that`s a requirement for playing a Norse God Of Mythology obviously but it certainly wouldn`t have hurt, either).
But I think Marvel was looking at him for the role as one of the candidates before they eventually went with Hemsworth.

The movie takes place after he’s already discovered that he is Lord Greystoke, and us ‘domesticated’, and he must bring that animalistic side back out in order to save Jane.
Now, if you have to bitch, bitch about that. But at least have some semblance of an idea of what you’re talking about.
